Welcome to the Mellon Lab. We study how the brain and pituitary interact to produce hormones that control reproduction in mammals using a variety of molecular, cellular, physiological, and genomic approaches. We study a wide variety of topics including circadian rhythm, stress, obesity, prenatal hormone exposure, neuronal migration, neuronal fate determination, puberty, the menstrual cycle while remaining focused on the hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone neuron (GnRH) and the pituitary gonadotrope, which produces luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
Dr. Mellon serves as:Professor of Reproductive Medicine and NeurosciencesVice-Chair for Research, Department of Reproductive MedicineDirector, UCSD Center for Reproductive Science and MedicineDirector, UCSD Women’s Reproductive Health Research Program Director, UCSD Transgenic Mouse and Embryonic Stem Cell Core Facility Director, Training in Reproductive Sciences Program Co-Director, UCSD/UCLA Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center President-Elect, Women in Endocrinology
